I have 8 six week old chickens that I’m afraid might be 7 Roosters and only one hen.

Hi :frow welcome to BYC. How old are they? Create a thread in the section What Breed or Gender? and post pictures; if they are old enough to show sex characteristics you should get answers. Good luck!

Do you have pictures of the chicks you're wondering about?

Possibly 6 and 2. I always planned on no roosters. Real suggestions on if I should get more pre-sexed hens. Not keeping a rooster.

6 weeks. All mixed with Copper Moran father. Trouble trying to post pictures from my camera. I’ll keep trying

How are you sexing these? I'm no pro but I am not seeing anything that screams cockerel to me in any of these but the bird in the very first pic, whose comb is a little brighter than the others. Let me ask @NatJ to take a look.

Hmm. I see why you are concerned. It's easier when there are obvious male vs. female differences in the combs, and I'm not seeing such differences in these photos. That leaves me with a suspicion that you have lots of one sex, and I'm not sure if there are any of the other sex or not. Or it could be they are too young to show male/female comb differences, but at 6 weeks most kinds of chickens will have started to show differences.

Did you hatch them yourself, or did you get them from someone who said they were certain sexes?

As I look at the whole group of chicks, I am fairly sure their father is not a good example of a Copper Marans, and probably not a Marans at all. The biggest tip-off is the foot color: Marans should not be able to produce chicks with yellow feet, no matter what foot color the other parent has.

The lacing on the first chick, and the red-circled chick, also make me doubt the Marans father. I think they are more likely to have two parents with lacing (can't be positive, but a bit suspicious here.)

Are you able to post pictures of some of the parents? Father and maybe some of the possible mothers? Certain combinations of parents do produce chicks that can be sexed by the color of their feathers, which is really handy when it is possible.
