Sooo, I have my little rouen drake Elliot who grew up with Templeton, he's roughly 11ish weeks old now, and he FLIES, alot, just today i thought he was done gone outta here, buh bye see ya!

in the evenings the young ducks have gotten up the habit of running all over the field chasing bugs and just having a good ole time before bed, well, they were over by the woods across the field *cringe*, and I guess something spooked them, as they all were having a hay day and then all of a sudden they came running the other way, Elliot started flying, he did three complete circles around the field about 20 or more feet up, then sort of crash landed in the chicken pen. I figured he'd have kept on going.

now I was always told that rouens were about the same size, and grew like pekins, well by 11 weeks old Boris could get...maybe an INCH off the ground he was so heavy.

I got Elliot from TSC during chick days and have always debated whether he was pure or not, i can't remember what hatchery our TSC got their chicks and such from, Elliot isn't very big, infact he's smaller than templeton now, and isn't built like any rouen I've seen, even the non-showy types I've look like pekins body wise.

heres a pic of him, I know he's not a mallard because he's bigger than the mallards...does he look pure?

he's a little A--hole of a duck, ALWAYS stirring up trouble, but I'd hate for him to try to fly off at some point.

Um...I don't think that's a drake. By 11 weeks you really should see evidence of curling tail feathers. I usually see it in mine around 8 or 9 weeks.

And Elliot is way too svelte to be a Rouen. Templeton sounds more typical for Rouens.

I'm no expert, but I think you have a mallard duck.

I wish he was a hen LOL, he doesn't quack, and he does that wierd hum noise drakes do, and and the head bob, so he's all boy.

Looks female to me..I have lots of mallards and 1 of them is a very big boy..Makes the others look tiny but he is still a mallard and flys great..My boy is 15 weeks he still doesnt have the sex feather but his head is really green has been for a few weeks sure the curl feather is on its way..I was told no TSC had rouens only mallards that is were all mine came from..

I will try to gt a better pic of him.

I thought I'd mentioned in the OP that he was starting to get his silvery belly feathers, but now i don't see it O_O

ETA: i've never had a drake get the drake curl before 3 months, so i dunno

I have three mallard hens and all three of them have yellow beaks, only the drake has the green beak, the only HEN I've got with a green beak is Jingo, and she's a girl, she is LOUD

Maybe he's a Rouen X Mallard cross.

I had a female Pekin who bobbed her head like a boy. She was a character. Whatever he is, Elliot sounds like a character too! Lol.
