I confess! I have NO chickens! I'm a bit scared of them really, I don't run away but I wouldn't touch one either.
What I DO have in abundance is Rottweilers, and it was the carting section of this forum that attracted me.
In Australia there is no formal carting competition, it's just a thing peculiar people like my friend and I do. Even the rest of the membership of our obedience club find it intruiging but very odd. I think we're seen as raving eccentrics and possible senile.
But we do a lot of good work for charity, chiefly by attending functions and giving rides to children as well as circulating in the crowd with any raffle prize and selling tickets while the dog carries the prize in her cart.
We have high hopes of starting competitive carting as a sport in Australia, but my first love will always be the fairs and festivals where we raise money for charity and raise the profiles of our respective breeds (Rottweilers for me and Berners for my friend) - our husbands just tag along to fetch, carry and pack.
I would love to hear from any carter, anywhere in the world. We use wildly different gear, I have a parade cart and harness, both made in the very small town where we live, Ivana has a Wilczek hay cart and Siwash harness - both work equally well for our respective dogs.
The photos were taken at our local National Trust property, Cooma Cottage, last Saturday 13 April 2013.
