I was wondering if anyone has tried - or sees any major flaws - in using Ikea Sortera recycling boxes as nesting boxes. I'd cut an entry hole in the front panel, and use the hinged lid to collect eggs. The whole thing can be run through the dishwasher. Thoughts? Link here.

They are too short. Hens stand up when the egg leaves the body. They need room to do that. You also need room for nesting material and a lip to keep it in.
If you didn't put the lid on it would work.

How much height do they need? People use milk crates stacked on each other, and the interior standing space of the milk crates we have 12" - these are 11". Our current nesting boxes I don't think are any bigger.

The taller ones would work.
Might not fit in your dishwasher, which is highly unnecessary, IMO.
