So I just had a silkie hatch some eggs for us and the egg colors were all the same brown some a little speckled. We got them from another local chicken owner.

Potential dads
-silkie
-nova gen
-Rhode island red

Mom
-nova gen

Now the first two hatched classic rhode island red look however the third is dark but still has orange legs like the other two so I'm gonna assume not silkie.. so I'm very confused as to what the coloring means? They told us Mom had to be nova gen so I just do not know what this ones coloring is about. It's the one in the middle between the others do we think it's a different breed all together?

Novagen is just a brand name for particular strain of red sexlink. The hens are red, roosters are silver with red/gold leakage.

All of these chicks look to have single combs, and you said they all had yellow legs, so that rules out the silkie as a possible parent.

The lighter chicks actually look too light for rhode island red chicks.

This was my RIR at 3 days old, looks about as dark as your darker chick. If I had to guess, I'd say the darker chick was fathered by the RIR and the lighter chicks were fathered by the novagen rooster.

Thankyou! Momma hides them when we go look so I haven't gotten to have a good look at that chick specifically to me it looks brown and striped just from it poking it's head out from under her but that would make sense if the rir was his dad
