Okay - looking to possibly make homemade feed for my birds - or at the very least, order it from a local organic supplier here in VA...

Upon reading recipes from other suppliers and/or just how to make it.. I'm finding this:

17% Layer Ration:
965 lb. Shelled Corn
600 lb. Roasted Soybeans
100 lb. Oats
100 lb. Alfalfa Meal
175 lb. Aragonite(calcium)
60 lb. Poultry Nutri-Balancer
2000 lb.

Now, I've read through several posts on here that state raw or uncooked soybeans are bad - but arent roasted soybeans basically uncooked and just more or less dried? I'm thinking like dry roasted peanuts...isnt that the same thing we're referring to? Are soybeans you buy in the frozen food section cooked or raw?

*confused*

so... is a dry bean - like say... peas - cooked or uncooked?

I'd say uncooked because thats what I think they are - but...I thought anything less than a mushy cooked soybean was uncooked LOL then again - frozen soybeans / canned soybeans I thought were like par-cooked...they're not fresh out of the garden and are a little mushy..

so are THEY cooked or fresh?

Roasted means roasted. Heat procesed.

A dry roasted peanut is far removed from a raw peanut. Yuck.

There are different types of soy beans for differet uses just like corn.

Etimame is a soybean but is not the same ones we grew for our cows. Vande Camps pork n' beans was once soy beans yet not the same beans as etimame.

pork n beans are soy beans? really?? I thought they were pinto beans? *gagging*.... I hate soy beans LOL and I dont like pork n beans either.. I am however, a huge Boston Baked Beans in the little Brown jar fan

Raw soybeans, all raw soybeans, contain an element that inhibits human digestion. Heat destroys that element.

Soybeans aren't poisonous.

okay, well - thats good to know -

so many things to know about what is and what is not good for a chicken..*sighs*... another page to add to my "Chicken ER" book.

and yuk..soybeans are icky, but I know you're right, if I dont know about it, then so be it but to eat them straight up, ewwww...
