Immune boost for chicks? How to use it?

Hello everyone!
when I purchased my chicks, I was given two immune boost items. 1 called CORID (amprolium) and a second one that is just called Immune Boost. I was told to give the Amprolium everyday in their water for the first three days. And then rotate between the amprolium and immune boost every few days. I’m a little confused because the instructions also say not to use them at the same time. I guess I’m curious about what the safest schedule is.
So far I have been cleaning their water daily and putting the amprolium in it. However, today is day 3 which means I am supposed to stop using amprolium and use the immune boost?? I’m confused. Any help would be great.

Can you please post photos of the products, dosing instructions/labeling/ingredients?
Where did you get the chicks?
What are you feeding the chicks?

Corid (Amprolium) is a Coccidiostat that is used to treat Coccidia overload in chickens. In the US it is usually in medicated chick starter as well.

I don't know what Immune Boost is. If you aren't supposed to use them together, I would "assume" the Immune Boost contains B1 (Thiamine).

I'm a bit curious too - I don't believe I've ever seen someone mention doing this. I suppose it's o.k. - likely you are giving a "preventative" dose of Amprolium, then replenishing vitamins?
Hopefully we can figure out more with photos.

Yeah, the amprolium is only supposed to be for the three days after the move and then once a week for 7 weeks. I’ll add pictures.

That's interesting.

Since these instructions came from the breeder, I suppose I would follow their recommendation. I can only assume they have a reason to include this information with birds they sell.

The Corid won't hurt them and they are right - you don't want to mix vitamins with Corid.

So should I go a day or two with clean water before giving the immune boost? I reached out to them but haven’t heard back. I just am not sure exactly how to implement both products correctly without using them at the same time. The only way I imagine doing that is cleaning the water. Giving them fresh water for a couple of days then putting in the immune boost.

would you say either product is necessary?

However, today is day 3

You've had the chicks for 3 days I assume?

According to the directions the breeder(?) gave you, give the Chick Boost for the first 3 days.

ONCE A WEEK - give the Amprolium (for example on your sheet - Tuesday).
ONCE A WEEK - give Immune Boost (for example on your sheet - Friday).
The rest of the time give fresh clean water.

The instructions are separated. IF there is a change in behavior...it lists some examples - then give Immune Boost IF the chicks are 3-10 days old. IF older than 10 days old, then treat with Amprolium.

What they are trying to do is have you give a "preventative" dose of Amprolium once a week to your chicks to help with Coccidia overload. The Immune Boost is vitamins. The vitamins contain B1 which could cancel the effects of the Amprolium if given at the same time.

I see what they are doing. Is it "necessary"? Probably not much different than feeding medicated feed. The Corid won't hurt them. Vitamins separately once a week won't hurt them either.

Personally I think this is needlessly complicated but it's good to have Corid on hand if it's needed, as coccidiosis can kill chicks pretty quickly.

Assuming the immune boost is just a vitamin mix it certainly doesn't hurt to provide it for the first few days to help chicks get over the stress of going to a new home, but past that it shouldn't really be necessary, even if you choose to use the Corid as the breeder suggested.

I agree, it does seem complicated LOL

I going to assume the breeder/source of chicks is just trying to help prevent problems - maybe they have encountered this before and just go ahead and give customers products to help - I don't know - one would have to ask them the reasons behind it all.

The once a week Corid - again, I'm just assuming that is to give a "preventative" dose - but it's a bit strange that it's only once a week. Again - this may be a proven method they have used and recommend for their birds that people purchase. Going back to the breeder with questions is always a good idea.
