I have a hen who will walk around her run very slowly and not stick with her flock. I have felt her crop and it is very hard maybe impacted. I plan on using olive oil and massaging the crop as well as isolating her without food. Should I give her grit or not, also could an Epsom salt bath help? I am slightly concerned that the oil, massaging and isolation won’t be enough is there any thing else I can do?

Thanks

Feel her crop tomorrow morning first thing before she eats, it should feel empty and not solid.
If her crop still feels hard, go ahead with the olive oil and massaging. Hold off on the grit. Then give her tomato juice if it's still solid, use an eyedropper or syringe without a needle to administer it orally. The tomato juice should get things moving, also for impacted gizzard.

I just found this thread in my research on impacted crop. I see this reference to tomato juice, but not a quantity. How much should be given, and should it be followed by massage? (Also, do you know what it is in tomato juice that makes it effective?) Thank you.
