I was wondering if anyone can help me? I'm interested in Potentially importing Philippine Darag hatching eggs into the US.
I live in the state of North Carolina. I'm not sure if I'll go through with it if it's too expensive but I figured I'd check anyway.

I do have an uncle living in Malaysia and he said they have the breed there so I would likely have him help with the transport and some of the paperwork.

What is the process step by step? What paperwork would I need and who will I need to contact?

I also don't know who I would get the eggs from so I'd have to do more research.

Does egg quarantine effect the hatch rate? Or do APHIS regulated hatcheries hatch the eggs for me and then quarantine them?

It's actually a great biosecurity issue, before bird flu, i think they stopped 5 ish years ago
Looked it up because the APHIS website still shows you how you can import.

This is what I found.

(Yes, you can still import chicken hatching eggs into the United States, but it requires a USDA import permit, a veterinary health certificate from the exporting country, and the eggs will likely need to undergo a quarantine period, especially if coming from a region considered high-risk for avian diseases like Newcastle disease; meaning there are strict regulations and specific conditions that must be met to import them legally. )

Oh good, I'm glad there's a way. That's alot red tape.

I'm just wondering if it would be cheaper to import live pullets rather than eggs so they don't have as high a risk of not hatching at the quarantine hatchery.

They would still go through the quarantine period but I doubt many would die that way. Also they could get any required vaccinations in Malaysia before being shipped.

I don't think I'd do it any time soon. Number 1 because of the bird flu outbreak. 2 because of cost. & 3 because I wouldn't want to trouble my uncle with all the required paperwork and vet visits.

I need to get a new job so I could pay for the whole thing myself. But I do think starting a US flock would be worth it. I haven't seen anyone here in the US breeding them which is why I was looking to import in the first place.

I'd need to figure out how many to import to start a successful flock.
