Hi there BYC Family!
Is there anyone currently working on getting the Indio Gigante breed recognized by the APA?

I know this is a very long process, but I can't find any information regarding anyone starting this project. There seems to be only a few true IG breeders in the US that meet ABRACIG SOP (whose site is currently not available, even with the Brazilian .br domain) which seems to be the biggest hurdle. I am unsure of how many true IG breeders there really are in the States, and what, if at all, they have done regarding APA (to my knowledge nothing, but I don't claim to know all).

If anyone has any sources, or leads, that would be greatly appreciated.
If you're an IG breeder and interested in this adventure, please let me know! On the flip side, if you're an IG that is NOT interested in this adventure, please let me know why too :)

I fell in love with this breed years ago and would love to be able to truly show them at exhibitions in their full giant glory, keep their standards up and participate in fun projects with specific goals that we can all share and admire together as a club. This requires multiple breeders who are willing to be active and consistent.

Best regards from Kentucky.

If you can somehow get enough breeders to start breeding the Malay which is a very old breed that was accepted in 1883, I think you could get the Indio Gigante accepted as well.
But as it stands, very few people are interested in raising and exhibiting such high maintenance chickens.

Hello,
I am new to the Indio Gigante breed. And have fallen in love with the breed as soon as I was introduced to them. I currently have 1 possible rooster and 1 hen. Both being around 2 months old. I would love to become a breeder for this breed. However, I am having Stick Tight Flea issues with my main flock and until that's under control I did not want to introduce anymore birds to the property. (Which I think I am finally starting to get control of.) (Oh, and rat issues coming from my neighbors too.)
But once I finally have this under control, I want to push for this breed to be recognized with APA. I would love to see these birds shown at State, County Fairs and more!
One day I would like to be a full time Hatchery! But for now, I'm sticking to hatching eggs and selling instead of producing my own eggs and selling.
If I can help in anyway or if you have any information to help me it would be much appreciated. Thank you -Katie

PS: Forgot to inform you that my 2 are from RRA. And are currently flea free and separated from the ones that have fleas!
