our chicken hasn't been showing any unusual behavior but we noticed this injury on the top of her beak recently, any ideas?

It appears to be a squamous cancer. Most of these are slow growing and don't affect a chicken's normal life span by much. But it could also be fowl pox, which usually clears up on its own in a couple weeks. If you have mosquitoes, this latter may be more likely than cancer.

Gotcha thanks, we do have a lot of mosquitoes near us and she's not even a year old so seems like cancer would be less likely?

These poultry cancers can strike any age. But you'll know soon enough if this clears up in a couple weeks.

I recommend buying the fowl pox vaccine online and vaccinating your flock. Wet pox can be pretty miserable and will smother a chicken on rare occasions if it's inside the throat.
