Insecticide on the grass

Hello!

Yesterday, our grass in the yard was sprayed with insecticide (CrossCheck) and I’m wondering how long until I can let the girls free range again. I usually let them out twice a day and they’ve really become used to it! It just poured here, will that help water down the poison?

It was liquid mixed with the hose, and the active ingredient is called Bifenthrin.

Here are the links to the label info and SDS (safety data sheet). They do not mention poultry at all, but I'd be very concerned about exposure. Read the SDS carefully, especially sections #11-12 in case you end up seeing any of those effects. The dosage determines toxicity, so I can't say if the effect would be minimal or serious.

Without further safety info, frankly I'd keep my chickens away from there. If it was applied to a limited area, I'd fence it off. The SDS says that the chemical doesn't readily biodegrade (breakdown) and can bioaccumulate (build up in the body as the chemical is consumed).

Wish I had better news. Maybe someone can find some better info.
