Hi. I'm going to use the template because why not?

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I first had urban chickens (3 hens) in my backyard starting in 2020. I had to move for work last July, bought a house in Agricultural zoning, and now I have the full chicken experience including three roosters.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

17 in two flocks (8 bantams, 9 large breed)

(3) What breeds do you have?

Mixed flocks. Japanese Bantam mixes, silkies, bantam cochin, an Orpington, a Plymouth rock, a variety of "Eggers," bym -- a few are frizzle.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I like watching them socialize. I love having little garbage disposals for veggie scraps. Eggs are nice.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

TV, writing, art, video games

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have three cats and two dogs. I recently retired from breeding pet rats. I bred them for 20 years, but the heartache was too much. I've repurposed my rat supplies to indoor button quail. (I have four "pet" button quail at the moment.)

hello!!
i used to have pet rats. they are so sweet . it’s nice to meet you! welcome to byc!!
Thank you for the welcome!

The last of my line of pet rats is still with me. I have four geriatric sisters, but I don't plan to get more (any time soon). Once they are gone, it will be my first time without rats since 2001.

I love them way too much for such a short-lived animal. (I discovered poultry takes much less of an emotional toll on me. 😅)
