In the Brooder
Hello! As a first time chicken owner I am so happy I have found this community. I have had so many questions and this forum has really helped answer some of my questions! Thank you!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We got 4 @ 4 weeks on March 7th
Currently integrating 2 @ 10 weeks on May 6th
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Six
(3) What breeds do you have?
1 Golden Laced Wyandotte
4 Barred Rocks (Originally thought they were Silver Laced Wyandotte’s) I believe some might be cockerels
1 Speckled Sussex (newly added)
1 Black Star (newly added)
The first day of integration with the new pullets was not easy. The BR’s were constantly after the two new pullets. They did all go inside the coop together for the night (last night) but this morning when they were let out, as soon as the new ones came out the BR’s went after the two new members. This morning I placed the two new pullets in an enclosure along side the run where the 4 other pullets (or cockerels) are. Later today I will let them out and see how they do again. Recommendations or tips appreciated! I attached some pictures but I am missing pictures of the SS, she is very fast and shy.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
The company around the yard
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have 10 year old border collie mix and live in California
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found myself constantly on the BYC site every time I had a question so I decided to join!
Looking forward to sharing what all of them turn out to be! Thanks!
