Hi everyone, my internet tag is tieflinglady so you can call me that or Tief is fine!
(1) I am not new to chickens! I grew up on a small farm in rural Louisiana with chickens, horses, pigs, ducks, turtles, bearded dragons, cats and dogs, as well as the Basset hounds my father bred and sold. I collected eggs and tended to the chickens for my mother and much to their amusement now, I seemed to dread it as a child. Now I love my flock! My birds are so very near and dear to me.

(2) As of right now we currently have 18 chickens! They are all young, only 5-8 weeks old at the moment. They are currently hanging out in my massive bathtub filled with lush straw along with a red lamp until they are old enough to be transferred to our permanent coop. My husband and I bought a 2.5 acre property with a few concrete buildings included, so we are dedicating one to the chickens. I like this because it pretty much eliminates predator danger, given that we are currently constructing the entirely enclosed run that will also protect them from predators while allowing them to roam and forage. I live in Appalachia where predators of all kinds are nearby. We have bears, foxes, coyotes, hawks, snakes, skunks... the list goes on. But my birds will be protected so hopefully we will avoid any horrible losses.

(3) We have a decent collection of breeds that have surprisingly blended well together! My favorite ( I can't help playing favorites thanks to this one) is a Lavender Orpington named Diva. She's the biggest of all of my chickens and she's got a lovely lavender-blue plumage that I adore! She is super affectionate like her breed is known to be. We also have a Calico Princess hen named Connie. We have six sapphire gems, the original six pullets we started with. We knew that in order for them to really socialize and thrive, we needed more! We also have a polish crested rooster named Timmy/Tina. We originally thought he was a hen so my kiddos still call him Tina. We have two Starlight Green Eggers, one that's ginger much like our two Rhode Island Red hens. The other is a gorgeous, cream toned blondie! Lastly we have two baby bantams, one is equipped with fluffy feets, and the other is a dark chestnut color. I am still unsure of their specific breeds because they are so young. Everyone is doing fairly well so I cannot wait to let them explore their permanent coop and run once they're old enough!

(4) My favorite aspect of raising my chickens is learning about each of them as they start to express their individual personalities! All of my chicks have been raised together so they have been getting along well. I have noticed some taking on more "mother hen" roles by supporting and cuddling the younger chicks which warms my heart. It is beautiful to see a little collection of birds bond together and take on their individual roles.

(5) I have quite a lot of interests and hobbies outside of chickens! I am a multimedia artist, ranging from acrylic paintings to digital art on my ipad! I also write! I can't reveal anything here of course but if you wish to find my content, my username is the same across sites! Outside of my art and writing, I am a pagan witch, as well as a follower of Brigid. I don't consider this a hobby of course but it is an important pillar supporting who I am.

(6) I am married, I will call my husband Marc! We have three teens together from his previous marriage and we are trying to have our own child together as well. A farm needs a baby to grow with it! My teenagers are all artistic or creative in their own rights, much like me and their father. It is very special to me that we get to blend our artistic visions and efforts together through the development of the farm.

(7) I stumbled across BYC while researching cross breed variations, lol! I am glad I found it! <3
