We just got some new ducklings! They are a lovely Black Swedish pair. Would they be a good show bird? If not, would they be good for showmanship? Thanks for the help in advance!

Ok, thank you! I just know some breeds are better for showing than others, or some colors do better. Like with my call ducks, the only ones that really ever win are White or Grey. You can show most ducks, but what you want to show are birds that exhibit the qualities that are breed standard. Take the time to get to know your ducks and if they are up to standards.
White anything is usually pretty easy to show because you don't have to worry about a pattern, so you can put more effort into breeding for the other traits.Ok, thank you! I see, that makes sense, thanks for the help and experience! The shows we go to, the judges will point out everytime a bird has something not to standard right away. And we can only show APA recognized breeds. I have shown a black swedish once but he did not win. It is going to depend on the show rules and what the judges are looking for.
It’s me again lol, I was just doing some more research on Black Swedish and found out that the color is not recognized by the APA. Might be why your duck didn’t win anything. The shows we go to, the judges will point out everytime a bird has something not to standard right away. And we can only show APA recognized breeds. Yeah, that’s what I saw.I believe that only Blue Swedish arein the Standard.
