Edit: put a new video and it doesn’t look promising. Any tips for helping her accept them? She’s done it before and is a crazy broody hen. I’m unsure what’s going on. Will trying to give them back to her tomorrow morning make any difference?
I gave purchased chicks to a broody momma and need advice to know if she’s accepted them!
I’ve done this four times and every time I stress about it. This hen adopted chicks last year and raised them just fine.
I got some chicks yesterday that had hatched overnight so they were just under 24 hours when we picked them up in the evening. I placed them under momma around 10pm.
This morning she’s chirping and seems okay but I’ve noticed her jabbing at the chicks occasionally when they poke out. I’ve attached some videos to show how she’s been. I’m just paranoid and want to make sure the chicks get taken care of. I’m monitoring as close as I can but between a toddler and having to leave to work in a few hours, I’m trying to gage how this morning is going so far.
She doesn’t seem to tuck them under her as well as I’ve seen previous mommas do. She has been broody for about 3 weeks. She did chirp a bit when I tossed some food.
