Hi all -- this may be a dumb question - but is Hex Netting the same thing as Chicken Wire? I plan to use it to cover the top of the run and am buying online so will not be able to see it first. Thanks!

I think hex netting can be made out of different materials, like plastic. In that case, I think the plastic is solid, even though the openings are the same hex shape. With hex netting made out of wire, like chicken wire, the individual wires are wrapped around each other.

If the description said the hex netting was make out of metal, then I think it's chicken wire. If they didn't say what it's made out of, I would ask. It may not be chicken wire, it may be plastic.

I had the same question. I was at Lowes today and they had Hex netting that said in the description on the label that it was Galvanized hardwire cloth.. It was 24inx50ft for only $8.27! The actual shelf where hardwire cloth was label as such was so much more expensive than this one labeled hex netting.I was wondering what makes this hex netting (that says galvanized hardwire cloth)any different than the hardwire cloth that was so much more expensive.

I don't know about the particular rolls you were looking at, but generally chicken wire (hex netting) has very large hexagon-shaped holes and is made of relatively thin wire. Hardware cloth has very small square holes and is made of heavier wire.

Hardware cloth is square holes, hex are hexagon shaped...the price difference is from the thickness of the wire, and how it's made...chicken wire or hex wire is just twisted together and can be ripped apart easily, hardware cloth or rat wire is much sturdier....there,all I know about.
