One of our barred rocks was just standing there forever when I let her out yesterday. After a warm soak in the sink, she ended up have diarrhea (I think?). It was mainly a lot of clear liquid with scant yellow but what appears to be a small lash egg. I decided to keep her in the bathroom overnight and upon checking on her this morning she had a very light yellow poo with what appears to be bits of regular poo (gross, right?).

Can a lash egg make the chicken out of sorts since it really is getting over another infection or the salpingitis? Or is my chicken experiencing something different altogether?

I read up on lash eggs not long ago. It's usually I sign there is an issue with the reproductive system and the prognosis is not usually good. infection or illness may irritate the Fallopian tube and oviduct causing an abnormal secretion of pus and bits if material . This may be serious or transient. Hens can recover from illness on their own or they may succumb.

It does look like it may be a lash egg, though it looks softer in the picture than the lash eggs I've had, mine were pretty firm. Generally when you cut them open they will look like layers of cooked egg. Salpingitis can be treatable if caught early enough, but most of the time by the time you see symptoms it does not respond to treatment. They are very good at hiding their illness. If you want to try then the help of a vet would be best. They can test to see if the infection responds to medications and advise which one would be best. Even if it does not cure the salpingitis, sometimes a round of antibiotics will knock it back enough to give them more time. Does her abdomen feel normal or does it feel swollen, hard, or fluid filled like a water balloon?

Her abdomen doesn't feel swollen rather she feels kind of small. And yes, the "thing" was rather soft and the inside didn't look much different than the outside. She continues to have watery diarrhea with pale yellow - about three this morning. Tractor Supply guy recommended Corid for coccidiosis and to treat the flock.

There's no blood in her stool. And she's not really taking anything in at the moment when I offer it to her. I have her set up in our bathroom.

Yellow yolk like droppings can be a sign of egg yolk peritonitis (EYP), or sometimes other internal infections can cause yellow foamy droppings. The odd thing she laid, whether lash egg or not, would indicate that certainly something is going on internally and infection is a possibility. EYP would need antibiotic treatment. If she is having laying issues then it could recur, depends on what the underlying cause is. Here is a link to some droppings pictures which may help: http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/02/whats-scoop-on-chicken-poop-digestive.html

Will the Corid treat EYP or is it frequently used in treating that? Or should I look into another antibiotic?

Corid will not treat EYP, it will only take care of coccidiosis. The corid is unlikely to hurt her, so treating for that is not really risky in the event she does have coccidiosis, but if it's another infection not treating that could be. Do you have a vet that will see birds? Even just getting a fecal float test and gram stain would be helpful. The fecal would confirm parasites or coccidia and the gram stain would help determine appropriate treatment for infection.

A friend recommended a vet that treats birds. I'm hoping I can take her tomorrow. She's been on our back porch laying under a chair for almost an hour. I'm really fearing the worst here and waiting is making me incredibly anxious. I don't want her to suffer.

:hugs Poor girl - She doesn't look too well.
Is she pooping?
Is her crop emptying?

Do your best to keep her hydrated - if you have some Poultry Nutri-Drench give her a direct dose at 1cc per 3lbs of weight. Once she has had water, see if she will eat a little for you - sometimes they will accept some chopped egg.

It's very hard to know what to do when they are like this - give her a little time, but if she starts having trouble breathing, her comb turns purple or quits pooping - then you may have to make a hard decision. I wish I had better answers for you - please keep us posted.

She has been pooping - clear and pale yellow and at times trying to be normal brown/formed. She's been interested in banana, a little feed and a bite of egg and she's been drinking watered down Gatorade quite well actually. Her crop appears to be emptying but I'm quite new to assessing that. Our dog started barking at her on the back porch and she started making the most noise I'd heard from her in days. She's back in our bathroom and I heard her fluttering about and roosting on the kids toy basket in the bathtub! I am still quite guarded but it's nice to see her doing more chicken things rather than so listless.

Thanks so much for your feedback and concern
