I have a couple random (but beautiful) tomato plants growing from my compost pile that is comprised of chicken poo, grass clippings, wood chips and some guinea pig poo - but isn't composted yet. I read somewhere that you shouldn't even put it on your plants if it's not "cured" yet because the bacteria can get into the fruit. Any comments would be so appreciated. The tomatoes are gorgeous! Oh, and there's also three stalks of healthy looking corn growing from the same pile.

LOL, ummmmm that's why they are so beautiful! Google compost

i've never heard of the bacteria... just that it can be "hot" and not produce plants well.

I had a pumpkin grow on mine... we carved it though.

But I'd think the fruit or veggies would be fine for consumption. If they are gorgeous than they got exactly what they needed to thrive.

I would eat them also!

I put horse and chicken manure on my garden, and I eat everything out of it....haven't died yet!

I don't see any problem with eating them... I put horse/steer manure on my garden each spring from the winter before and never had any problems. Veggies are just prettier!

I'd be eating them up. If the plant was able to grow in that "hot" compost. Hot in terms of heat which may be produced if the heap is composting well, and hot in terms of nitrogen rich due to animal poo, those tomatoes got to be good eating! Never heard the bacteria on the goods thing though.
