Hey everyone,

a few weeks ago I discovered that one of my hens had a significantly dirty cloaca. Lots of poo stuck to it and obviously it had been irritating her as it was scabby and looked infected. I did some doctor googling and it seems like it could be vent gleet. We have been washing the area with a warm water and antibacterial solution as well as putting antiseptic cream and antifungal cream around the area as suggested online. It isn't really getting any better, so I would love some suggestions. Is there medication I could get.

Hi there!
Has she been eating? Or drinking? Also how does her butt smell?
Is she skinny, or pale? Has she been laying eggs?
She doesn't lay, but that's because she's an older girl. She seems to be eating OK, although she does look a little trim. Not looking pale. Nice red comb.

Pictures would be helpful. How old is the hen? Do you know when she last laid? Have you ever wormed her or had a fecal done?
The flock was last wormed about a month ago. Wouldn't know when she last laid. Have not done a fecal test. I'll get a photo when my husband gets home tonight.

How old is she? Does her abdomen feel bloated, below the vent, between the legs? Either water balloon like or very firm? Also feel her keel bone/breast, is the bone very prominent, or is it well muscled? Some birds are naturally more lean than others, but if the bone is very prominent then she may be underweight. You have to feel it, the feathers make them look fluffy.

Please post photos of the vent.
