Is McMurray big red broiler the same as a red ranger or freedom ranger?

Is McMurray big red broiler the same as a red ranger or freedom ranger?

Sort of/maybe. My understanding is the red ranger and freedom ranger both at some point came from the same parent stock, but how long ago that was or what's been bred into or out of them since they were split from the original population is unknown. So, the technical answer may be yes, but if you try each of them, you will probably get flocks with unique characteristics that are not the same as each other. Not sure about the big red broiler being the same as the freedom ranger - they look pretty similar on the website, but the only way to get some idea for sure is to raise two separate flocks and compare them. Unless someone on here has done that and can share that info with us.

We just processed our first batch of Murray's big red broilers last weekend and have our second batch of chicks. We are pretty happy with them. My daughter showed them at our county fair and they received reserve champion, the judge said it was the first time he has ever awarded that to anything other than cx.

I don’t think they’re exactly the same as Freedom Rangers. I raised 6 this spring and it went super well. They were processed at 10 weeks. They’re weren’t super cooperative about being weighed so I only got a few weights, but they were about 6 1/2 to 8 lbs.
