Hey everyone, I now have 23 chickens ( 7 bantams & 16 standard size) in a 10 x 40 run. That is 400 square feet so it’s a little over 17 square feet per chicken. I have two raised off the ground 4x8 coops and they only stay in the coops at night. The nesting boxes are attached on the outside of the coop so it doesn’t take up their floor space. I have several widows in them for ventilation. The coop space is a little cramped but they only stay in it at night and I haven’t had any fighting or bullying. Winters are not very cold where I’m located so they get year long access to their run. Half of the run is also covered. But, free ranging is not an option because of predators. I put mulch at the bottom of the run to encourage foraging and digging. They seem content but I just want to make sure they have enough run space.

Do they split up in the coops at night or all try to be in the same one?
The bantams tend to stay together in one coop but I check every night to make sure one coop isn’t too crowded. They go in at about 8:40 pm and are let out at about 7:00am.
