I purchased sexed chicks a week and a half ago (Speckled Sussex, Barnvelder, Olive Egger and Blue Austrolorp). The Blue Australorp seems to be bigger than the others. She also has tail feathers growing and the others don't. Is this typical in the development of an Austrorlorp hen, or is this beauty a roo?

Lol, tails mean nothing, especially at this age

I have a blue australorp (Sylvia) that is supposed to be a hen too and she looks like yours. She is about 4 weeks old. The tail is the same. I'm a little nervous because her comb looks to be a little on the pink side. I'm keeping an eye on her. She is a bit bigger than my other chicks and she seems to sort of "rule the roost" if you know what I mean. I'm hoping she is a hen because she is so adorable and entertaining. I can't keep a rooster.

Any word on your little one? I’ve got a chick that seems to fall in the blue australorp category and looked like yours when it was little. 😊

My little flock is about 4-4.5 weeks old now, and here’s a picture from yesterday. Definitely not a large chick, only about 325g (11.4oz).

Laverne is definitely a hen!! She's 16 weeks now and as cute as can be! Wonderful personality. Two of the other three, however, did end up being roosters, which I had to rehome. :(. They began crowing at 7 weeks!!! So I was left with Laverne and Shirley (my speckled Sussex).

So happy to hear! Any current pictures?
