HELP!

I bought a pullet twelve days ago who is 14 weeks old today.

I had my suspicions, but today I noticed her comb and wattles have really popped, and now I’m concerned my suspicions were correct!

I’ve slicked back ‘her’ hair with water so you can see the comb. There’s no sign of streamers I dont think, but her tail is worrying me 🥴

Does anyone have young pullets with comb/wattles this big?

I am new to this and I know how hard silkies are to sex. I’m only going off the three 13 week olds I hatched (which I have DNA results for) as well as my own research… none of mine have anything like this.

Thanks for your help!

How certain are you that 14 weeks is the correct age? To my eyes it looks like an older, point of lay pullet. But if 14 weeks is right it is probably a cockerel.

I am not certain at all! I have had concerns about her age since I got her as she is so much bigger than my 13 week olds. Although I can’t think of why they might have lied?

The lady I bought her from told me her DOB was 28th August. When I collected her I was like wow, she’s massive compared to mine!

I weighed her yesterday and she is 922g, my original ones are (supposedly!) a week younger, and around the 630g mark

That is a cockerel. That comb and those wattles are big even for an adult silkie hen.
Thanks for your reply! This is what my gut says… Although it’s my first time owing silkies, and someone else said that with cross breeding hens can have big wattles and comb sometimes. So I am not sure if I am just overthinking but my gut has said boy from the start… ‘her’ comb/wattles are so much bigger than my boy!

I think I am going to send off some dna feathers for express testing today. I got the other guys back in about 4 days express and it would be good to know for sure!
