It keeps hanging around and I have a male ring-neck Id love to find a little female friend for. My ring-neck doesnt show much interest in it as I gave him a mirror so he spends the day bowing and cooing at himself!

Not sure it if shows but there is a blue ring around its eye..denote male?

I raise homing pigeons but there are a lot of similarities to ring neck doves.

The best way to determine the sex of a pigeon is to ask another pigeon.
In a perfect world the pigeon on the right is usually more iridescent and larger than the ♀ pigeon on the left.

That being said no matter which method you choose to sex a pigeon mistakes are sometimes made. I usually can tell the gender of a pigeon just by looking at it (but I have been know to make mistakes too.)

One thing I am certain of if it lays an egg it is female !!

On that note:
If you place your pigeon in the company of a know gender pigeon one can usually tell the gender of the pigeon in question by the reaction taken by the know gender.

(Too many references to gender in tha sentence but I think you can follow).

Check out the link the pigeon bowing and circling is the bird walking is ♀

Here is another link which may be more up your alley.

Yes I studied doves and the bowing and cooing which my male dove does but not to this unknown gender mourning dove. I sort of wondering if the mourning dove is too young, if it is because of the fact that it is a mourning dove and not a ring neck or because it is of the wrong gender. My ring neck will bow and coo at my young chicks, both males and females, which is so funny to watch their reaction. He even tries to take the food from them when they are together in the same play area.

What Id like to know is if blue on a mourning dove signifies definitely a male. Since I have not been able to get anyone near me advertising "doves for sale" on Craig List to respond to me for purchase of a mate for my guy Im keeping my eye out for a mourning dove which I have many wild in the area. Im hoping he will attract one into his aviary.
