I recently noticed bumblefoot in one of my hens, and while treating that, figured out that she and another hen had scaly leg lice. I've been treating both of them for scaly leg lice for the past week (soaking in epsom salt, gently scrubbing their scales with a soft toothbrush and coating the legs in vaseline), and their scaly leg issues seem to be gradually improving. But as I was treating one of them I noticed that her foot pads seem to be enlarged, and one of them seems to have some scaly leg mite activity. My other hen's bumblefoot looked like a swollen round lump with a big black spot on the bottom, and the plug came out pretty easily after soaking in warm water with epsom salt for about 20 minutes. This chicken's feet both have a large floppy footpad in the middle of the bottom of her feet. I thought maybe she just had strange feet, but as I looked at them more I started wondering if something else is going on, and that's what led me here. Both of her feet have this strange foot pad situation, but only one also seems to be infected with the scaly leg mites. My apologies for the crappy photos, it was hard to hold her still and hold the camera at the same time, but hopefully you get the idea. These pictures are only of the worse foot. Also I should mention this chicken is active and has not displayed any limping or visible discomfort/lethargy. Thanks in advance for any insight!

I've encountered bumble foot a few times, and was able to remedy by removing it. It never quite looked like that. I'm not entirely sure what that is... Sorry couldn't be more help

I also have never seen a foot pad that looks like that. Some of the spots almost look like where a feather shaft would come out. Since this is a feather footed bird, I'm wondering if it's some kind of deformity, almost like part of an extra toe, maybe has always been there and was just noticed. Other thought was a growth. If vet care is an option they could determine if it could, or needs to be, removed, or better just left alone. Otherwise I think I would just keep an eye on it, make sure it's not getting bigger, since it doesn't seem to bother her.

Thanks for your insight! I suspect that she may have been inbred, so deformity could definitely be an option. I will be keeping an eye on it and if it gets bigger or seems to bother her I’ll try to get her in to see a vet.
