Hi there,

I have new chicks and have a few questions on 2 of them. #1- bought from Russell feed and was told it is a buff brahma (about 3 weeks old). #2- bought from tractor supply from the assorted bantam bin (about a week old).

Does #1 look like a Buff Brahma? I don’t see any feather on it’s legs.

Any idea what type of Bantam #2 is? They were not labeled and had all different colors, so not sure.

TIA!!

Chick #1- Named Lilly - Supposed to be buff brahma

Thank you!! I was suspicious because I haven’t seen any pictures of buff brahma chicks with dots on their face. This is what it looked like a few weeks ago when we got it. My daughter calls that one Lilly and my son calls it Willy so I guess we will know what to call it once we know what it is 😉. My daughter came up with noodle and it stuck. Kids come up with the best names.

Hi! This is what our Buff Brahma looks like (approx 3 weeks). Definitely has feathers on her feet!

I've also I closed a photo of our Easter egger hen from last year when she was about a week old. Doesn't have as many spots as yours, but maybe?

They are both adorable! I agree, she does not look like your buff brahma, but much more like the easter egger. She it turning out to be really dark.

Brahmas don't have straight combs. They have pea combs. The face mask isn't quite right for a speckled sussex either, although thats not enough to rule them out. The challenge is that chipmunk markings are the most common (greatest numbers of breeds) down markings out there. The masking makes me think of golden wyandotte (but comb wrong there), and they're not really chipmunked. Brown leghorn, welsummer, many of the EE/OE types depending upon what they're derived from. Several partridge marked birds (including partridge rocks). Even Rhode Island Reds get the dots on the feather tips at first (its not one as they're more rusty colored). Just keep watching.

Can't speak to the bantam at all.
