I just bought a Janoel 12 incubator for my daughter’s Birthday. I’ve ordered an egg candler and hygrometer/thermometer since yesterday when we started our first batch of eggs . I’m mostly worried about my eggs not turning since I have only seen the marked side up. Do they need to be turned a full 180 or will being slightly shifted be okay? I’m worried about hand turning them and opening the top since I have no way to monitor humidity right now. I’m less than 24 hours in and I’m already worried. I don’t expect to succeed since this is our first time trying to hatch eggs I would be happy with one just to know we can.

I have the Janoel12 incubator too. I’ve got 6 eggs in lockdown right now. Did yours come with the auto turning tray? It does roll the eggs, but the movement is so slight it’s hard to notice just looking at it.

Yes it came with the tray. My eggs are pretty large and I put nine in the tray but I tried to put a large medium and small egg in each slot and I slid the tray before turning it on to make sure that they moved freely and they did but I haven’t noticed any movement with the eggs since I turned it on. I know that people take them out to candle them I’m just worried about humidity mostly because I have no way to monitor it and that the will not move like they need too. I don’t know if they need to move all the way around or if just shifting is enough. I bought it as a birthday present for my daughter and I don’t want her to get discouraged I guess.

I keep both trays in mine until lock down, because it did not seem like having only one tray in brought the egg turner up high enough to the little metal rod that slides it. Then at lock down I take the top tray out and lay the eggs on the bottom tray.

I kept both trays in just because I thought that’s how it worked. I can see it sliding I just can always see the side of the egg that I marked.

How long you guy’s had yours? Do you hatch most of your eggs? It had lots of good reviews on amazon so I’m hoping that counts for something.

I got mine for Christmas. I have had 75% hatch rate, the 2 hatches I’ve done with it. I wrap a towel around it and calibrate it to my digital thermometer/humidity monitor. Temperature stays spot on at 99.5 degrees, I do get a small temperature spike around day 12 but that is because the embryos are now producing some heat. I keep my humidity between 35-45% first 18 days then at lockdown add a warm wet sponge to keep humidity at 65+%. My only complaint about this incubator is that you can not see the chicks hatch.

You do need both grid trays for the turner to engage...been using the janoel 12 for at least a dozen successful hatches...I never use the turner though. have hatched up to 35 coturnix and 20 large chickens at a time. I got a egg rack for quail and 1 for chickens that is stationary and load them large end up on the bottom grid, then I rock the entire incubator 3 to 5 times a day, using a rubber wedge door stop to prop the tilt from one side to the other. This method works very well and the egg movement is not much more than 90 degrees from side to side...so no they do not need to turn all the way around or even half for that matter. As you already know the instructions that come with it are pretty useless. But there is a lot of good info and demonstration on youtube. You can get a decent hygrometer/thermometer on ebay for under ten bucks. then use the "outside" thermocouple in the incubator for humidity and temp verification they also have a min/max function so you can see any temp/humidity changes when you are not there. Just run the wire through vent hole and zip tie so it hangs at top of eggs....the thermometer that comes with is mounted to high in the incubator for an accurate reading on the lower level. You really do need to monitor your humidity as if it is to high though the fist 18 days you will not have a good hatch.....I run mine totally dry first 18 days and have up to 90 percent hatch rates, contrary to instructions. But it does matter what your humidity is where you are incubating for proper air cell size at hatch. The same janoel is also sold as a magicfly 12, so search both names on youtube and you will get all the info you need! Goodluck!

I should have thought about these things before I popped the eggs in. It’s up to fate I guess I just ordered a hygrometer/thermometer today but right now I have no idea what’s going on in there. It’s killing me!
