Hello,

I am building a coop to house Jersey Giants. I am curios as to how large I should make the opening and the nesting box's?

Thank you for any answers.

Hello, and welcome to BYC.

Jersey Giants are a little different to keep than most chickens. Jersey Giant roosts cannot exceed over 3 feet or they can most likely injure themselves landing.

I use cat litter boxes for my chickens to lay in. Most chickens love a small, confined spot to lay. You can also post this question in the Coop & Run - Design, Construction, & Maintenance form or on the Jersey Giants thread for Pictures and Discussion thread.

Thank you! The roost information is great. I hadn't thought about that. I was thinking about making the nest boxes 16". Wide. Do you think that is wide enough for them?

My Giants use a nest box about a foot wide, 16" may work. Giants stop growing at about 2 years-- first the skeletal structure, then muscular. I'd try a foot wide first, then if they become too large for that size, cut the opening a bit larger.

Are you getting your Giants from a breeder?
