I have a jersey giant rooster that I crossed with several dark Brahma hens. 4 chicks are solid black with feathered feet, 6 chicks are penciled with feathered feet. Would this be considered a black sex link? Which would be male or female? Thanks

One of the chicks, 2 months old approximately.

Well no matter which way I put it in the chicken genetics calculator (3 different ways) all the chicks end up being black. So obviously there’s some incomplete information in the calculator. As far as I can tell this is not sex linked, but hopefully more genetic savvy members will post responses. Very interesting question! The chicks are quite beautiful.😊

It is somewhat sex linked. When they grow up, the chicks will probably be black with leakage, with the males having yellow leakage and the females having gold leakage, but this is unlikely to be seen at hatch. Additionally, it is not what people call a “black sex-link.”
