Hello,
I ordered 6 Jumbo Pekin ducks. I am currently doing some research on them and want to know if they can breed with each other and what the offspring would be like. I foolishly thought that Jumbo Pekin were a separate species and that they were just created by selective breeding and otherwise a unique breed. Further research seems to be that they are a specific X and that the offspring might not be jumbo?
Thanks

Where did you see that the Jumbo is a specific X? Contact the hatchery and ask them if the Jumbo is a true breed. Or how did the Jumbo come about.

this for Metzers web site pretty much explains where the Jumbo comes from.

this is the exact site that causes me some confusion. most hjumbo producers make the the claim that some "large" male strain crosses a good egg laying female.

this suggests a somewhat specific cross to me and it is now unclear what would happen if you bread two "purchased" jumbo pekins

It says a large meaty strain of Pekin breed to another female Pekin.
so should we assume then the specific cross of "a large meaty strain of Pekin AND another female Pekin" creates the jumbo and therefore that two jumbos crossed will not make a jumbo? or did they just use a more fertile female out of convenience?

You should rephrase your Post topic to Anyone who has a Jumbo Pekin I have questions. Or something similar. I am not sure how to answer your question. Are you wanting to produce more Jumbos for the freezer? Is that why you ordered them?
