It's rainy here today and I thought that I would share some pics of my coop and chickens from yesterday's sunny and warm day.
Here is the layout of my coop/run which sits in a 14.5'x16' chicken yard. The girls have 24/7 access to the entire coop/run and an auto chicken door to the chicken yard.
This is a picture of the front of my coop/run. The egg boxes are hidden behind a meyer lemon tree. Also in view are my silver laced polish (far right) and dark brahma (partially hidden in shadow).
I have put in a frame and planted it with some chicken friendly seeds. The girls managed to scratch dirt and wood chips to fill it up though. My dark brahma girl is ready to devour the first sprout. So far they are leaving the potted rosemary alone and the espaliered pomegranate is established enough to scoff at chicken attempts of destruction.
Just beyond the rosemary there is a treadle feeder and the "wet" area of the chicken yard that is filled with river rock to avoid a mud pit. The coop/run sits on a base made of 12" wide pressure treat. I made the girls a ramp over the rocks to make getting in/out the auto chicken door a bit easier.
The girls insist that they have not had enough treats as yet today - even though they have finished off the soldier fly larvae in their chicken toy (the yellow ball near the top of the picture).
That's it for now. I'm sure I will have more pics soon.
