K&h adjustable thermo plate help needed new chicks

I picked up some buff orphington chicks from the farm store and will use the k&h adjustable thermo plate. Is the lowest level (angled) the right place to start? There's no instructions...when do I raise or lower? Thank you for helping. I want to make sure my new babies are ok.

Yes, use the lowest possible level (one side is higher than the other). You will know when to raise it as they get bigger. Their backs should be touching the plate when they are standing under it. The chicks will grow quickly, and you'll raise it to the next highest level as they get bigger (in a week or two, and then another week or two after that, until it's at the highest level).
