Keeping chickens off the coup.

It started slowly with one, then over the course of a few months all but one of my hens are roosting on top of the coup and run. It’s messy, dangerous and hard on their joints when they get down. It got so annoying I gave up for now on pulling them down every night. I just want to prevent it. There’s plenty of room in the coup. Anyone ever use bird spikes? Are chickens smart enough to avoid them?

Do you have pictures ? Why not roll up some chicken wire on the edges it should scare them from trying to jump ,

They will go to the highest place they can get ,

Many chickens will roost outdoors with good weather. Perhaps it's too warm/humid inside the coop. Best way to keep them down is to clip their wings to prevent flight. Keep in mind that they'll STILL be able to flap/jump straight up a good 3' or more.

There's usually a pretty good reason why birds go on top of a coop instead of inside of it,
and that's what you need to figure out.
How big is coop, in feet by feet?
How many birds, and what ages and genders?
As already mentioned, pics of coop, inside and out, and run would be of immense help.
