Hey all! New member here with a question. We have 4 hens and 2 ducks that have been raised together since 1 day old. They are around 3.5 months old. We had a dog get into our yard and kill one of our ducks unfortunately. We are moving soon, and plan to get more ducks when we move to our property, but in the meantime will our remaining duck be ok with just the chickens as company? We do have a friend with a large flock of ducks that would be willing to take her, but our kids are very attached to her, so we are wondering if she would possibly still be happy with the chickens as friends. We are new to duck keeping so any advice would be so appreciated! Thank you so much in advance!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

So sorry for the loss of your duck. :hugs I kept a lone quail (the last of my quail flock) with the chickens, separated however but in a double dog crate so he could see the chickens. And while I'm sure it wasn't the perfect situation for his mental and physical needs, he did pull out of his depression and did quite well up to his passing. I have never kept ducks but interacting with other birds may be the answer. Best wishes!
