Every night we go out to the duck run and lock them up in their house...but tonight one of our ducks flew up and found a small hole in the netting overtop the run. She landed a few feet away from the run , in our yard, so I thought I would just "herd" her back to the run. Imagine my surprise when she took off flying about 50 feet in the air and flew at the very least 250 yards away!!!!!
We live in the country and are surrounded by corn fields which is where she landed. Smack dab in the middle of corn that is about 7 feet high now. It's dark now and I'm just holding on to some hope that she may come back? But I don't know how she could possibly find her way back because they have never been outside of their run. Let alone surviving a night alone with coyotes, fox, raccoons, etc.
I'm so mad!!! Not only because we just lost a duck, but because she was 1 of 3 females and they are only 1-2 weeks away from laying
It's one thing to lose an animal to a predator but to raise her from a baby and just sitting in my house knowing she's out there all alone in the dark. I'm so sick to my stomach right now!
So to the people that thought that Khaki Campbell's can't fly that far, believe me, I just learned otherwise! Guess what I'm doing tomorrow....
