:frowHello! Today we noticed a couple of killdeer had made a nest in our yard. 4 eggs total. I'm worried because there are stray cats, falcons, and our dog around. Our dog we can handle, but the cats??? :idunno Is there anyway to protect them?? Do people incubate killdeer?

killdeer nest on the ground and move the babies often as soon as they hatch. That is what they do. The best thing you can do for them is to make sure there are lots of long grass or other cover for the babies to hide in and of course keep the kitties well fed.

if it helps we had a pair of killdeer actually nest right in the middle of our driveway. We had to put a chair in the driveway near the nest since it was so well hidden we kept driving over it by accident. All the babies hatched and I saw them bouncing around in our yard despite the neighbors dogs, our 3 cats, falcons, hawks, coyotes, etc in the area. Just enjoy their antics.
