Killer Rooster

There are a couple of things that come to mind that could explain behavior and not necessarily mean he’s a bad guy. I agree though, why was the previous owner getting rid of the rooster? People can’t man up and deal with stuff so they pass the animals on.

Either you didn’t give them a chance to meet through wire for a long enough time and he tried to force himself to exert dominance and she resisted. They should be separated for at least a month. He needed to learn to coax those ladies over and get them to appreciate him. Treats on his side of the fence that the girls could reach would be a good way to do this. They needed to learn that he’s a friend and a week just isn’t long enough.

Or there could have been an issue with the hen that you don’t know about. Chickens know. Ever wonder why mamas kick some babies out of the nest and don’t take care of them? My flock once ostracized a hen before and she had health issues. I removed her, all issues were over.
