Hi all,
Today I noticed a large wound on my hen, Ede (6YO). My chickens are free range and don't have a ton of contact with us outside of feeding/picking up eggs so I'm not sure how long this has been going on. She was eating and drinking normally. All other chickens appear fine. I'll be putting her in our separate coop area for the time being. Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Her left eye looks to be gone. The large lesion on her face could be cancer, an abscess or canker, a protozoan infection. It doesn’t look like she could eat and drink like this. The best thing for her might be to put her down. If you treat her, it would involve daily care to apply warm soaks to the face to soften the scab. Then I would try to dig out some of the crud from her nostril. Then apply Neosporin until the next treatment. Is she able to eat or drink? Does she have a bad odor? Is a vet possible?
