Hello, everyone! Yesterday we got our first egg from our Easter Egger, and today she laid a second one!

However, both times she’s just laid the egg where she was walking and walked away. Is that normal?

She does go in our nesting boxes several times a day, but only to fluff the material around and throw out the fake eggs. She throws the fake eggs out no matter which box we put them in.

We have three other hens, and none of them are laying yet.

Congratulations! I haven't had one lay while walking but I know new layers can take time to figure things out. It's good that she's curious about the nest boxes. Most likely, she's so new to it that she's not used to the "feeling" they get when they're ready to drop an egg. Once she practices a few more times, she'll know when an egg is coming and will seek a more comfortable place.

Just a warning, it may take a while. My very first layer is still laying in the bedding under the roost instead of the boxes even though I have 6 others that use the nest boxes. These chickens like to keep us guessing!
