Noticed this chicken this morning shutting its eyes and just standing around. It ate a little and socialized a little but clearly not normal. No wheezing, eye or nasal discharge. Just quarantined it and gave it a scrambled egg which it ate with vigor and some feed and sunflower seeds which it was also eating vigorously. Seems a little more perky after eating but as I watched it, it still just stands there and shuts its eyes. I don't see any signs of trauma. Its poop is green but not diarrhea.

Two weeks ago a chicken had the same issue. I originally thought it was egg bound or perhaps had been stepped on by one of our goats, the chicken would absolutely not eat or drink so it went downhill pretty quickly and ended up putting it down.

Now I'm not sure. Could it be mites or worms? At this time of year? It's been pretty cold. I have goats and I know the worst time of year for worms is spring for them so I didn't think mites or worms. And wouldn't bird flu spread very fast and wipe out the flock quite quickly? They recently have started laying more than they were, about a month ago I was getting one egg a day and now I'm getting 6-7 a day (have 13 chickens).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions :)

Try giving this chicken one cup of warm water with a teaspoon of sugar mixed in and add a pinch of salt and baking soda to supply the glucose and minerals needed to stabilize organ function.

This is always a good treatment to begin with when a chicken is acting "off".

She seems to be better. Vet came out and said probably viral, she could see some mucus on nose but said there was not that much, and said with bird flu you'd see copious amounts of it and wheezing which she doesnt have. No mites. She is eating better and not lethargic but we are still keeping her separated. I think we noticed this early and pulled her pretty quickly. Hopefully she makes a full recovery
