hi all, my barred Plymouth who's a little over a year old, started acting lethargic today after looking/acting normal this morning. she didnt run to the coop door like normal nor did she run to the treat jar like a crazy gal lol. she just kinda stands there looking all sad like her tail is pointed more down. she did lay an egg this morning and it was normal. her crop felt a big empty but there felt like something was in there, kinda malleable??? it wasn't hard but it wasn't water balloon squishy either so I have a feeling she ate something in her coop that's upsetting her but I can't imagine what it could've been. I fed her some egg yolk and electrolyte water and that went fine, but I haven't seen her eat her regular food today. she will eat her scratch out of my hand though, otherwise just stands around looking miserable :( she doesnt seem to be getting worse, but I dont know what it could be other than eating something weird. would really appreciate some advice on what to do or what might be there issue, thanks!!!

Your young hen may have another egg in the chute. From my own experience, that's the first thing I would suspect. I keep a bottle of calcium citrate with D3 in my run at all times for just this sort of emergency. Pop one whole tablet into her beak and continue to offer the electrolyte water. Keep her in a crate in a quiet place with food and water and check on her occasionally.

The calcium will stimulate contractions and you should see a shell-less egg within the next hour or two.

you think she would even though she laid this morning? I think it was only an hour or a couple hours after she laid when I noticed her acting lethargic.

she has perked up as of now over the day, she has eaten some feed mash and drank (I put electrolytes and acv in the water)
