My 3 almost 4 week old chicks have lice (creepy yellow bugs). How can I treat them ? I read permethrin but my tractor supply looks like it may be out. Does it need to be that or can I use a spray like this (I will need to make a hour drive if not) ? Should I treat all my adults as well or just buy a dust bath solution for them after cleaning. I only have one egg layer so I want to be careful with her . I just got ALL these chickens from a local so I’m guessing that’s where this all came from 😞.

I dusted my chickens with poultry dust, changed all their bedding, and sprayed the coop with diluted permethrin.Just keep in mind that permethrin is toxic to cats. Also I don’t know if chicks that young can have it.Can you post a picture of one of the bugs?

My chicks had lice from day 1 from momma hen, she's a big brahma x orpington so a lot of feathers hard to see and because she was brooding I didn't want to move her much. I treated all my other hens including mother hen eith ivermectin, but not the chicks. The lice would feed on both chick and mother hen and die from the drugs on mum so babies benefited without having it applied directly to them. They all seem happy and healthy.

I ended up getting controversial DE and the above spray . I read that permethrin was safe but my tractor supply knew nothing sadly about it and were out of stock of the one I needed/recommended and Amazon is 3 day gig due to my rural location . They are definitely lice as they were clear. I just don’t know if the birds outside have them as well as we could not find any them we did treat all chicks which have been separated since day 1. I bought everyone at once just 3 weeks ago so idk if just babies had it or everyone. I cleaned everything out though and sprayed with above spray and put DE in multiple dusting spots. I’ll probably treat outdoor chickens today although I hate to get my silkie wet . Then I’ll retreat/clean again in a week.
