Hi All,
I’m a new chicken owner and am very worried about my 9 week old hen. She started limping about 3-4 days ago. Her left foot is limp and curled in. I checked for leg mites and bumblefoot and there is no indication of either of those. I’ve been giving her Liquid vitamins I case she has B12 deficiency (but no other of the 8 chickens are showing issues, and her toes aren’t curling like the pictures I’ve seen). Could it be broken? Any advice welcome! I’ve attached a picture. She is drinking and eating.

It could be a sprain, but it also could be a riboflavin deficiency. Mareks disease can be a smaller possibility. Does your chick vitamin have riboflavin (b 2?) If not, get some inexpensive human B complex or super B, and give 1/4 to 1/2 tablet daily, crushed into a bit of egg, wet feed, or a spoonful of water. Let us know if it improves. Restrict her activity so she doesn’t jump on and off a roost, or run around in the yard.

I really like Durvets B complex for leg issues. How much B vitamins are in the supplement that you are giving and which ones?

Thanks for your responses!
After reading lots of posts I bought Polyvisol drops and am giving it to her twice a day in her beak as it sounds like it’s almost impossible to overdose.
Also bought human chewable b-12 that I’m crushing and trying to get her to eat (less successful).
Most of the pics I see of riboflavin deficiency have toes that are kind of more splayed out… her whole foot just has this limp look. Vaccinated by breeder but know it’s not 100% for maerk’s - but pics of that also look a little different. We don’t have an avian vet nearby so trying my best!

B12 is not the one she needs, but B2 (riboflavin.) Wire dog crate with food and water are good to separate them if she is too active.

Your chickens leg/foot looks and sounds very similar to a B2 deficiency. Which is most likely why you have seen no improvement with the other vitamins you have been giving. Some chickens will have more curled toes some won’t depending on the severity. I would ignore the pictures you saw because most that pop up on Google are from severe b2 deficiencies.

I’ve been giving polyvisol and pieces of vitamin b2 vitamins daily. Putting mild pressure on it occasionally when walking, but also sitting a lot. Today I noticed the leg looks swollen and has kind of a lump near the “ankle”. (She is very tired of me manhandling her!)
Slipped tendon?? Any advice appreciated.
