Hello!

I would like to run an idea by you all before implementing it in an experiment.

Has anyone used their fresh chicken poop in the garden by dissolving a piece in a watering can and then watering at the base of their plants?

I would think I would do this once a week.

What are your thoughts on this idea and could it work?

You definitely do not want to do it often and at high strengths. Chicken poop is one of the "hottest" poops you can use so it will easily burn your plants and kill them. We never use fresh poop for this reason. Just not worth the chance on the crops. We raise cattle and we let their manure, bedding, old hay, etc sit for a season before tiling it into the ground. Like stated above a very diluted especially fresh manure tea probably wont hurt. When it doubt get a soil tester!

I live in Florida, sandy soil and lots of rain. I only have 1 chicken but I do use her poop as fertilizer. I just plop it down and water it in. It usually breaks right down. I even do it on the potted plants. I have noticed no problems, but again its just 1 chicken.

By brother used to make manure tea with his old dry chicken poops by letting it steep in a wheel borrow for a week or so, then he’d water it down before applying to plants.

It worked well, but some times he would let it steep too long and get it too strong and occasionally burn the plants...

if you google “chicken compost tea” you’ll find more info on ratios etc.
