Little children

D'Uccles are a gentle breed small enough to be handled by a little child. Most individuals are very calm around children.

I want to buy a breed that my grandsons can become friendly with. They are 5 and 3 and very gentle. What do you recommend? Also, I am new to this.
What about silkies? I don’t own any, but they are on my wish list. Everything I have read about them says they would make a great pet. Look at the breed information and see if you might agree.

I always recommend modern game bantams. They are the tamest breed I've ever dealt with and small enough that little hands will be able to handle with ease. If you decide to get into showing, they require very little grooming.

I would also recommend either straight game fowl or bantam game breeds particularly if you're not at all concerned about egg production.

I would also recommend very careful supervision of children.

Wyandotte bantams are really small & very tame & gentle. Stay away from the roosters though. Wyandotte roosters are one of the most aggressive I've ever run across.

Edited to add a picture. This is my golden laced wyandotte bantam, Lottie. She's probably less than 1/3 of the size of my regular hens.

I have a 5 year old daughter, we bought 4 Amaraucana and one light Brahma. The light Brahma loves laying on her and being affectionate. The Amaraucana are affecte too but she is the best out of the bunch.
