Hello,

I am just starting out and only had one guinae hatch out of 15. It seems really healthy but it cries all the time. The brooder is warm enough and his behavior suggests the same, I think it is just lonely. I gave it a stuffy and it slept in it's lap last night and it's favourite spot in the brooder is right on top of the bears head, where it perches to scream.

I know guinaes are not very domesticated and typically do not like to be handled, but it stops screaming when i pick it up and hug it, and starts screaming again and running to my side of the brooder when I put it back down. Do you think it wants to be held to help with the loneliness? Or am I stressing it out more?

There are no guinae keets available in my area to get to put him with, believe me, I have SEARCHED 🥺.

Any tips on what i can do to help this little guy? I am afraid he will die of loneliness.

Hello,

I had just one guinae keet hatch out of 15 eggs and it seems really lonely.

I put a stuffy in the brooder and it slept in it's lap last night and it's favourite place to be right now is right on top of it's head, where it perches to scream.

I know guinaes typically do not like to be handled but I tried picking it up and holding it to my chest and it seemed to calm right down. Then when I put it back in the brooder it kept running to my side of the brooder l, looking up and yelling at me again. When I put my hand it and hold it out it will stand in front of my fingers and let me scoop it up by the belly.

Am I helping it to not feel so lonely by holding it, or is it possible I am stressing it more and endangering it?

I have looked extensively for other keets to buy to put with it but there are none available in my area right now.

What else can I do to help the little guy? I don't want to see it die from loneliness. Can I raise a lone guinae?

You can make similar to a feather duster to hang in the brooder. You can also turn a radio on for it.
