Hi All! This website has been a savior of my chickens and my sanity!! I so wish I went to Veterinary school now that I have chickens (and one house rabbit) but this website has helped me calm my nerves and figure it out on my own, so, thanks.
I am new to chickens in the sense that these are my own, prior to ever owning my own I took care of my aunts chickens (84) when ever she went out of town. So I had a tiny bit of experience, mostly cleaned coops and collected tons of eggs! Big learning curve!
I currently have 4, lost 2, and currently have one of the 4 living in my bathroom following a Hawk attack. My favortite: Chelsea Mae Snap.
-My favorite and my current infirm: Chelsea, is a White Plymouth Rock.
-Lisa is a Leghorn and my tiniest chicken, she also sounds like a cooing dove until she lays and calls her sisters back VERY LOUDLY!
-Ruby Red is a Rhode Island Red and the 'Mother Hen' to all the other ladies.
-Starlet is also a Rhode Island Red and also the scaredy chicken unless its feeding time and then shes the bully.
Our Lost Loves: Kenna- she was a lovely White Plymouth Rock and Chelsea's twin.
Frieda- a Very beautiful Black Sex Link.
two of our original 3, the KFC bucket: Kenna Frieda and Chelsea.
I love every single thing about them. They make me laugh and entertained everyday, I wish the age to retire was in the early 30's because I would stay home and raise chickens forever. They are my favorite thing in the wide world, <3.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Well, sometimes my house rabbit is snuggly, mostly he begs for food, but hes cute so I let his attitude slide... I suppose you can call me an animal fanatic because the dream is to have a little hobby farm someday with all types of animals. We want a dog soon but still searching the shelters for the perfect match.
We live on Long Island on the South Shore and my fiancee and I are both Union Iron workers. When we aren't at work we are big time home bodies. If we socialize its because people come over.
I found BYC by googling chicken questions and concerns, every time it directs me here and so far everything I've read is helpful! Especially now that I have a chicken hospital in my upstairs bathroom. Cross your fingers for my pretty bird Chelsea!!! XOXOX
