Hi! Well my ambitious plan to start making homemade tortillas and freeze some didn't really happen, and I still have about 4.5 of a 5 pound bag of tortilla flour leftover. (Homemade tortillas are totally worth the effort.) It's basically corn meal. Also, my husband and I recycle/capture all of our edible garden stuff for our hens, like cabbage hearts, etc.. and I shred them because my hens are totally spoiled.

I want to mix up these veggies with the corn meal and give it to my hens as a treat, but not sure the ratio...I made like a bread last time with a box of Jiffy corn bread and shredded kale and they actually didn't like it at all...Help?

I have fed my chickens corn meal before... They loved it as-is. Sorry I don't have any recipes for you though. The Chicken Chick might have some though. :D She has lots of recipes for chickens :jumpy --->

I have found that my chickens do not like certain fruits/veggies though and that they do like others (list below):

Produce most chickens don't like:

Citrus
Kale
Spinach
Banana Peels
Mango Peels
Avocado skins
Artichoke

Produce most chickens like:

Bananas (raw)
Apples
Cabbage
Lettuce
Berries
Tomatoes
Peaches
Nectarines
Plums
Pears
Sprouts
Sweet Potatoes (skin included)
Squash
Peas
Grapes

Produce that varies (some like it, some don't):

Carrots
Cucumbers
Green Beans
Onions
Garlic
Cauliflower
Broccoli
Avocado
Pineapples
Mango

Note: Keep in mind that feeding chickens to many scraps is not very healthy for them. Commercial layer ration is formulated by nutritionists to meet chickens' average daily needs. When you do feed them scraps though, try to do as it sounds like you've been doing (keeping the scraps healthy with a minimum of boxed/processed foods).

Great!! Thank you for this information. Did not know that about the kitchen scraps, I thought this was good for them...I will check out the link as well.

Thank you!

You can make a "polenta". Water in a pot bring to boil, add the masa and cook stirring often until thick and creamy, add more water if you need it. Cook about 15 min. My chickens gobbled up the leftover polenta I gave them earlier this week.
Major great idea
